Review of the film "Terminator: Dark Fate". Now you can bury
Terminator – Perhaps the most striking example of an artificially stretched, tortured franchise. James Cameron created a solid and finished dilogy that did not need sequels, prequels, nor spin-offs. Alas, after ruining the studio Carolco Pictures The brand went hands, and each new owner tried to find his application. But, judging by estimates and fees, none of these attempts met the approval of the audience.
The third film was too DamSlots Casino diligently copied "Judgment Day" , The fourth – on the contrary, was too far from the usual formula of the "Terminator". However, neither one nor the other mocked the fan feelings as cruel and cynical as he did "Genesis". The picture of Alan Taylor was not just another unnecessary continuation, but a real act of cinematic necrophilia. The events of the first two parts, hitherto inviolable, were canceled, rewritten, turned inside out and turned into a non -humble circus seasoned by wramyed quotes. This, without a doubt, became the lower point in the history of the killer robot. But, as it turned out, not the final.
The rights to the series returned to James Cameron, and he, in turn, attracted the director "Deadpool" Tim Miller to return the series proper form. And it was even almost succeeded.
Dani Ramos is a simple Mexican girl, young, but far from careless. It has a concern for the younger brother-prostitute and the elderly father, and the norm at the factory will not fulfill itself. And everything in her life was simple and clear, until a terrible something came out of nowhere-a metal monster-reprint, which for some reason wants the death of the heroine. And in addition, some stranger with strange scars claims that the future of all mankind depends on the preservation of tribute.
Except for a rather unexpected introduction that I will not spoil, "Dark Fates" go to the already familiar template from beginning to end. This is again compilation from the first two parts of the series, but if in the same "Larbage of cars" This approach spoke rather about the indecision of the creators, then a conscious choice is noticeable here. Before us is a kind of collection of the best hits, which is quite justified with "Awakening of power". Although there is a more appropriate reference in the franchise itself – "Genesis". He also had to dispose of the rich pop-cultural heritage of the Terminator and put pressure on nostalgia. Only the authors of the "Dark Fate", unlike the team of the previous picture, have a taste, a sense of proportion and straight hands.
Purely technically, the Rev-9 is not quite bifurcated-it simply separates the shell made of liquid metal from the base
Not so much external attributes of original films as their structure are borrowed not so much. The plot is based on the chase again lies. Inexorable evil pursues the main characters, but before the final confrontation they cannot stop him in any way, only slow down. The formula itself, despite the simplicity, is still working regularly-take at least a chital indie chorror It follows. It all depends only on how formidable the pursuer turned out and how much the viewer can empathize with the victims.
There are no problems with the first: Gabriel Luna from "Agents Sh.AND.T." damn good in the role of Rev-9 (apparently, in the original it should be consonant with “Revenant”, that is, “Fatuled Dead”). Yes, this is the next variation of the T-1000, which differs only in that it knows how to bifurcate. However, the creators caught one important feature of the liquid terminator, about which for some reason they forgot in all sequels-the ability to social mimicry. After all, Robert Patrick in the “Judgment Day” played out not only a deadly car, but also an exemplary polite cop. Here is the Rev-9, when necessary, shines with a charming smile, which looks rather creepy. At the same time, the moon is convincing as a killer robot, each action of which is aimed at performing the task. Minimum unnecessary movements – maximum effectiveness. If the creators did not want to add a completely unnecessary villainous cliche in the final, the image could be called whole and spectacular.
With heroines, everything is not so definite. The main problem is that it is predictable, in tribute: Natalia Reyes, of course, the beauty and at least not annoyed, but the film is not capable of dragging on herself. Certainly not with such a script. Her girl is a walking McGaffin even more than any of the Connor. In the absence of an interpreted character, Reyes can only emotionally respond to everything that happens. Linda Hamilton in the first film was put about the same conditions, but there everything kept on her chemistry with Michael Bin. Here, the young actress is completely overshadowed.
Grace – a soldier devoted to his work. Actually, the features of her image are exhausted by this
Take at least the same Hamilton, the return of which is perhaps the best that has happened to the franchise over the past twenty -eight years. In fact, “dark fates” are entirely kept on Sarah Connor. This is her film, the end of her arch. Once she appeared in front of the audience with a frightened waitress with a ridiculous hairstyle, then turned into an exemplary woman woman, and now joined the League of the aged but unrequited body idols. And she is worth it even higher than Rambo. Hamilton plays as if there were no three decades and an uncomplicated career. Before us is the same Sarah, let it become more fatigue and cynicism in it.
She is very successfully supplemented by another fighting lady-Grace, in fact, the female version of Kyle Riza, only with superpowers. The character, like Dani, is not particularly subtle, but Mackenzie Davis at least grabs charisma so that it was interesting enough to follow.
However, probably, the most controversial hero of the “Dark Fate” was the aged (not the first time) T-800. What, according to the film, is happening with the terminator “in wild conditions”, on the one hand, it is quite natural (especially if you recall the “Day of Judgment”), but on the other, nonsense is no less than shown in “Genesis”.
Karl, what his name is here, is no longer as a comic character as the paps from the "Genesis", but he left not far from
However, this is the main and probably the only surprise in the film, completely deprived of surprises. And the point is not even in trailers, where too many were lit up again, but in the fact that the picture does not try to go beyond Cameron almost thirty years ago. There is a compulsory chase with the participation of large equipment, and sparring of two androids, and a shootout at the factory – all according to the canons. And this was even filmed well (although in places it seems as if there wasn’t enough time or the budget on the schedule), but at the same time the “dark fates” are withdrawn from the memory immediately after leaving the cinema hall. This is a well -tailored, but all the same artificial and unnecessary sequel of the "Judgment Day", already fourth in a row, except for the series "Chronicles of Sarah Connor".
Yes, it so coincided that there are three main characters in the "dark fate" at once, but there is no more feminism here than in the first two parts
However, the film still has some kind of significance. Cameron was unlikely to think so (especially taking into account the recent interview), however, Tim Miller played the role of not a resuscitator of the franchise, but rather a Grimer in the morgue. After all that he did the “Genesis”, he sewn the gaping wounds, wiped the dirt and faded the bruise. Now the "Terminator" at least looks like itself. Now you can say goodbye to him.
